What are Auto responders and how do I create them?
What is an Email Auto
Responder?
A mail auto responder is an automatic reply that is sent out from a given mail name when incoming mail is received at that address.
Auto responders can include both a text message and attached files. This mail function is often used on mail accounts for individuals who need an automated response because they are away, or are unable to check their mail for any number of reasons. On the
auto responders’ section of the Mail Names Properties page, you can upload and include attachment files for your
auto responders, enable the auto responders function for a given mail name, and access the
auto responders’ list.
There are two
types of Auto Responders:
The silent Auto
Responder:
In this case, you configure the responder
to send the desired information when it's emailed, however you 'do
not' receive copies of the inquiries that people originally
sent. This method is typically used if you have a product and want
people to email an address for additional information on it. You simply
tell them to email moreinfo@yourdomain.com, and
they receive additional information on it. Again, you 'will not'
receive receipts of the visitors emailing the auto responder.
The Auto
Responder that sends you the original inquiry:
In this
case, the auto responder is setup to work with a (currently configured
pop email account). Now, the sender receives your automated
response, and you receive their 'original inquiry'.
How to setup an Auto
Responder:
1. Log in to your control panel https://www.yourdomain.com:8443/
2. Click on MAIL
3. Select the mailname that you want to modify
4. Check the "Mail autoresponders" box
5. Click on ADD
6. Enter a name for the autoresponder
7. Configure the properties for the autoresponder
8. Click on UPDATE button to take you back to the email configuration page
9. Click on UPDATE button at the bottom of page.
That's it! Your auto responder is now online. To
test it, email its address and see if you receive the auto response. If
you've configured it to an existing pop mail account, you should receive 2
responses. The first, which is your inquiry, (that you just sent to
yourself), and the second, which will be the automated response.
